The Democratic National Committee today reiterated its party pledge to supply defensive arms to Israel.
The question as to whether the Democrats advocated arms for Israel was raised following press reports in Israel stating that the final party platform omitted the clause pledging arms to the Jewish state. A Democratic Committee spokesman today termed those reports “completely unfounded.” He said the Democratic Platform specifically states.
“The Democratic Party will act to redress the dangerous imbalance of arms in the area created by the shipment of Communist arms to Egypt, by selling or supplying defensive weapons to Israel.”
