According to gossip here, many of the Democrats believe that Henry Ford’s aspirations towards obtaining the Muscle Shoals concession will prove the undoing of his presidential candidacy. The argument is that if Mr. Ford gets the Federal nitrate and power plant in Alabama, he automatically will become a government contractor, or at least be immersed in such interlocking relations with the government that he would be ineligible to hold Federation office. In that event, Democratic politicians contend, this would constitutionally bar him from the Presidency. In addition to the Southern democratic support which may be counted on as certain to ratify the concession, the Farm bloc, according to Senator Capper, is expected to come out as a unit for the granting of the concession to Ford.
