Former Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion who, during his premiership, opposed Government sanction for the bringing to Israel of the remains of Vladimir Jabotinsky, late founder of the Zionist-Revisionist movement who died in the United States in 1940, said today that he will attend the funeral ceremony when Jabotinsky’s remains will be reburied in Israel.
The Cabinet yesterday voted permission to transfer Jabotinsky’s remains to Israel. Informed of the Cabinet’s decision, Mr. Ben-Gurion said he still thinks that this was net a matter for the Government to deal with but, since a decision was taken, he would certainly participate in the funeral. It is believed that Herut will name a special committee of veteran Revisionists to go to the United States to bring the body here, and to make the funeral arrangements. The remains will be transferred to Israel soil on July 9 (Tamuz 29). the 24th anniversary of Jabotinsky’s death, the Herut Party decided today.
(In New York, Judah Lapson, national commander of the American Veterans of the Jewish Legion, today sent a cable to Israel’s Premier Levi Eshkol, offering the Legion’s participation in carrying out the arrangements in the United States for the transfer of Jabotinsky’s remains to Israel. Beinesh Epstein, executive vice-chairman of the Zionist-Revisionists of America, issued a statement declaring that “the Revisionist movement received with great satisfaction the news that the Government of Israel decided to carry out Jabotinsky’s testament and transfer his remains to Israel.”)
