Commerce Minister Valerius Pop stated today that press reports that the Government had prepared a bill restricting employment of non-Rumanians in commercial, industrial and financial enterprises were incorrect.
A special meeting of the Council of Rumanian Jews, acting on the reports, appealed to King Carol and Premier Tatarescu to guard Jews’ constitutional rights.
Dr. Wilhelm Filderman, president of the Union of Rumanian Jews, presided at the conference, and Senator Jacob Niemirower was among the delegates from all provinces who attended.
It was decided to send messages to King Carol and Premier Tatarescu assuring them of the Jews’ devotion to the throne and “the fatherland” and expressing hope no measures will be taken to restrict the Constitutional guarantee that no discriminations will be made among citizens on the ground of creed or race.
