Reports that other Jewish members of the Westchester-Bitimore Country Club planned to follow the example of Al Jolson, by resigning, were denied.

“The resignation of Mr. Jolson was a personal matter,” the representative of Mr. Bowman, president of the club, stated. “He offered it and it was accepted. That is all there is to be said. We have not received any additional resignations, nor do we look for any.”

Al Jolson, before his departure for Atlantic City, confirmed his resignation from the club, in an interview with the representative of the “Jewish Daily Bulletin.”

Mr. Jolson declared that he regretted that he did not know all the time that the club had a policy directed exclusively against Jews. “I was never made to feel that way.” he said.

” I am a Jew and I will always remain a Jew. I was never ashamed of my Judaism. I prided myself on my Judaism at the club. just as I am proud of it at home. If the club does not consider it fit to have Jews as members, I should not be fit for membership either,” Mr. Jolson declared he told Roy Jackson, manager of the club.

Asked where the club has made “exceptions” also of other prominent Jews and whether there are other Jewish members in the club, Mr. Jolson stated that he has no information concerning the matter.
