A White House spokesman has formally denied to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that Shimon Peres, leader of the Labor Party in Israel, had discussed Israel’s use of cluster bombs with Vice President Walter Mondale, National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski or Secretary of State Cyrus Vance.
In a speech delivered in Montreal on April 10, Peres was quoted as having said, that he told Mondale, Vance and Brzezinski that “we shall use cluster bombs against the gangs shelling our women and children.” Peres spoke as guest of honor at the fourth annual dinner of the Friends of Ben Gurion University in Montreal.
