The closing of displaced persons centers in the American zone in Germany to new applicants after April 21, as announced recently ## General Lucius D. Clay, was not attributable to British pressure because of Palestine, but ordered for administrative reasons, Acting Secretary of State Dean Acheson announced today.
Mr. Acheson explained to his press conference that lack of funds and of housing ?used the War Department order, but stressed that the borders of the American zone ##uld remain open to persecutees. He said no people arriving after April 21, nor any ## the 166,000 DP’s now living in the American zone outside of camps, would hence##rth be accepted in the centers, but would have to take care of themselves.
“This has nothing whatever to do with closing the frontiers,” Acheson declared. The policy is not to close them and we will not. But the people who come in will have to take care of themselves.” Asked to specify these arriving in the U.S. zone, ## said the infiltrees are mostly Jewish immigrants from Poland.
