The departure of the Soviet legation members from Israel, scheduled to take place this afternoon, was held up since the Israel Government has received no word that the members of the Israel legation in Moscow have left the Soviet Union.
The Soviet legation here had booked sailing for 39 persons on the Turkish ship Kadess which is departing from Haifa this evening for Istanbul. The ship might return to Haifa on Sunday to pick up the Russians. Meanwhile, local Communist leaders were maintaining contact today with the staff of the Soviet legation. One local Communist was arrested by the police, who found on him various material, including a stenographic record of Knesset debates.
The Communist-sponsored Israel Committee to Encourage International Trade, which was formed after last year’s economic conference in Moscow, has wired Soviet Minister Pavel Yershov that it will do its utmost to build up Israel-Soviet trade as a prelude to reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Israel and the USSR. The Israel Peace Committee has sent a message to Minister Yershov to the effect that “Israeli peace lovers look forward to renewed relations with Russia.”
