Deploring the lack of playgrounds in the lower East Side, Brooklyn and other sections of the city, Mrs. Arthur Hays Sulzberger, acting president of the Park Association, at the regular monthly meeting of the Federation of Jewish Women’s Organizations held yesterday at Congregation Emanuel Community House, appealed to Federation members to back the association’s efforts in taking playgrounds and parks out of the hands of politicians. The meeting was attended by more than 500 women, representing 225 constituent organizations of the Federation.
Other speakers included Leopold Dubos editor of the Jewish Braille Review, whose appeal for support of the publication resulted in pledges of more than $100; and Miss Marcella Rubel, of the Jewish National Fund, who appeared in place of Mrs. Israel Goldstein. Miss Rubel declared that “all public opinion in Jewish life was veering to Palestine as the solution of present problems besetting Jews all over the world.”
Mrs. David E. Goldfarb, president of the Federation, revealed that membership now totalled 111,563, exclusive of thirty-one groups of which there is no accurate membership record. Announcement was made of an all day meeting to be held at Emanuel on May 16.
