” Israel is an oasis of calm in the seething polities of the Middle East.” Michael S. Comay. Deputy Director-General of the Israel Foreign Ministry, said today on his arrival at Idlewild Airport for a tour of the United States and Canada in behalf of the Israel bond drive.
Mr. Comay stressed that the visitors now streaming into Israel have been struck by her calm despite tensions in the Middle East. ” Underneath the general relaxation and enjoyment and pride of the tenth anniversary celebrations. ” the Israel diplomat pointed out. ” Israel is quietly aware of the unfinished job of state-building which must be tackled in the next decade, and tho formidable burdens of immigration, development and security which must be shouldered.
” The prospect ahead is one of hard work, self-sacrifice and maybe fresh dangers from without, but the achievements of the first ten years make all Israelis confident that they can meet any challenge, provided the Jewish people of the United States and elsewhere live up to their side of this historic partnership. In particular, Israel bonds will be called upon to provide a vital share of the investment capital in our drive towards self-sufficiency. which is the key to our political and defense situation as well.”
