Deputy Isaac Gruenbaum one of the Polish Jewish leaders quoted by Max D. Steuer in his allegations against the Joint Distribution Committee, added his ## to that of H. D. Naumberg in an interview with M. Singer, Warsaw correspondent of the Jewish Daily Forward.
The correspondent cables that Gruenbaum told him that he “never spoke with Steuer concerning the currency losses of the J.D.C.” According to Mr. Singer, Deputy Greunbaum stated that he spoke with Mr. Steuer only concerning the economic situation of Polish Jews. mentioning the losses which they have suffered through the fluctuation of the Polish currency and the currency speculations which were going on in the country and which led to an illusion of prosperity.
Gruenbaum added that he does not remember the entire conversation. It is possible he stated that he mentioned the J.D.C. on passent, but he certainly said nothing concerning the money affairs of the organization. His opinion concerning the work of the J.D.C. in Poland has already been published by the Committee. He believes that the J.D.C. has delayed much and has greatly influenced the Jewish situation in Poland. Although the J.D. C. has not succeeded entirely in festering the economic position of the Jews it has done much by bringing about better cooperation between the various elements which in itself was a great communal achievement.
