Describes Suffering in Germany

Major H. L. Nathan, a prominent member of the British Parliament, who declares millions of non-Jews in Germany are suffering from Nazi persecution.

It would be a mistake to think that the anti-Semitic policy of the German Government affects only the Jews of Germany. It affects also millions of Christians, Major H. L. Nathan, a member of the British Parliament, declared in an interview in London today with the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.

There are several millions of non-Jews in Germany today who are being persecuted by the Government just because they inherit a certain proportion of Jewish blood. These victims, who may have had nothing to do with Jews for a couple of generations, are now suffering for their Jewish origin just as much as the professing Jews of Germany themselves. They are being boycotted socially, and restricted in their legal rights, while all the anti-Jewish laws and ordinances apply equally to them.

“The Christian world should therefore continue,” Major Nathan said, “to fight for the rights of the Jews, so that not only professing Jews, but also the millions of Christians, who are suffering because of their Jewish origin or affiliations, should be reinstated in their rights.”

Major Nathan, who is the Chairman of the Central Jewish Consultative Council, believes that the situation of the Jews and those of Jewish origin in Germany may become worse. A number of recent speeches delivered by Nazi statesmen, he declared, have been to the effect that the German Government does not intend to go back on its anti-Jewish measures. On the contrary, the Government seems to intend to increase tht boycott against the Jews, and ultimately to annihilate them.

Major Nathan believes that the Jewish and Christian world outside Germany should continue to resist the Hitler Government by every possible means, making it known that Germany cannot be readmitted into the comity of nations with the other great powers unless and until she shows that she is prepared to treat those within her own borders in accordance with the principles of equity and the normal canons of western civilization.
