The city of Hamburg has “sharply condemned” the desecration of a Jewish cemetery in the suburb of Ohlsdorf, in which 38 headstones were recently smashed. The municipal council has also undertaken to repair the damage which police officials said was caused by nine thirteen-year-old children in an “excess of sheer high spirits.”
Meanwhile, it was reported from Brunswick that a gang of hooligans broke into an ancient Jewish cemetery, recently restored, on the outskirts of that city, and overturned 46 headstones. Police have failed to trace the gang, whose members used crowbars in their operation.
