The Jewish people are determined to secure the establishment of their own army under their own flag, irrespective of whether this army will be recognized or not, David Ben-Gurion, chairman of the executive of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, declared here today addressing a conference arranged by the Jewish National Fund.
Ben-Gurion in his address scored the systematic failure of British officials to mention in their press reports that Jewish soldiers are fighting in the ranks of the British army. “This, despite the fact that ten thousand Jews have participated in the battles in Libya, Greece, Crete and Syria,” Ben-Gurion said.
The conference adopted a resolution pledging itself to assist in the upbuilding of land settlement in Palestine “not only for these Jewish workers who are already there, but also for the millions who will stream into the country as soon as they will be given the opportunity.” Another resolution sends “fraternal greetings to the 10,000 comrades who joined the British forces and distinguished themselves on the battlefields in France, Libya, Greece and Crete.” A resolution expressing admiration for the courage and tenacity of the Russian people and hope for a final victory of the Russian army over Hitler’s forces was also adopted by the conference.
