Twenty-two Jewish bakeries opened their doors again this morning after a one-day stoppage as a gesture of sympathy for the family of Harry Haftka, twenty-year-old son of a Jewish bakery owner, killed while driving non-union workers to work.
An official of the bakers union confessed that he had hired two sluggers to beat Haftka, but denied that murder was intended.
The killing of young Haftka is looked upon here as a serious setback for the union. The family owns a non-union shop, which has been picketed for the last two years.
