The new Jewish Community Center here will remain closed on Saturdays pending a complete study of the question of Sabbath operation by a special citizens’ committee, its board of directors has ruled.
The decision followed a wave of protest against an earlier decision to open the Center’s facilities on Saturdays. The Saturday opening was deferred while the board reviewed the issue. The board took cognizance of the protests which came from many directions and decided to leave the question to a committee of outstanding Detroit citizens.
