The eyes of the socially-minded throughout the country will be on Detroit for a period of five days beginning next Wednesday, when the National Conference of Jewish Social Service, National Association of Jewish Center Executives and National Council for Jewish Education convene here.
The national conventions will be preceded by an all-day meeting of the general assembly of the National Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds. The opening session of the National Conference of Jewish Social Service will take place at Temple Beth El at 8 p.m. Thursday, when the national president, Dr. I. M. Rubinow will speak on “The Credo of a Jewish Social Worker.”
HEALTH PROBLEMS DISCUSSED
A joint session with the Association of Center Executives and National Council for Jewish Education will be held on Friday morning, when the general subject for discussion will be “Trends Affecting American Jewish Life.” Among the participants in the discussion will be Harry L. Glucksman of New York, Dr. Jacob S. Golub of Cincinnati, Prof. Selig Perlman of the University of Wisconsin, Dr. John Slaw-son of New York, Dr. Emanuel Gamoran of Cincinnati, Dorothy C. Kahn of Philadelphia, Edward M. Kahn of Atlanta, Prof. Samuel M. Levin of the College of the City of Detroit.
On Friday afternoon a health section will be conducted jointly with home economists in Jewish agencies. Child care, family and care of the aged sections will be conducted at the same time.
On Friday evening, a general session will be held and Dr. Ben M. Selekman of Boston will speak on “Emergency Social Policies and Their Challenge to Social Workers.” Participating in the discussion will be Rabbi Edward L. Israel of Baltimore.
JOINT DINNER SESSION
Another general session will be held on Saturday morning, and in the afternoon a joint meeting of the child care and family sections will be held.
Delegates to the three national conventions will have a joint dinner session on Saturday evening, when Dr. Rubinow will speak on “Programs of Jewish Community Organization in the Light of Changing Trends.” Participants in this discussion will include Rabbi Solomon Goldman of Chicago, Samuel A. Goldsmith of Chicago, Dr. Sidney E. Goldstein of New York, Dr. Mordecai N. Kaplan of New York, Jacob Kepecs of Chicago, Dr. Solomon Lowenstein of New York, H. L. Lurie of New York, William J. Shroder of Cincinnati and Mrs. Henry Wineman of Detroit.
The subject of discussion at the joint session of the three conventions on Sunday morning will be “A Social Philosophy for the Communal Worker.” Business sessions will be held on Sunday afternoon, and the convention will close with a session on Monday morning.
LAYMEN TO GIVE VIEWS
The sessions of the National Association of Jewish Center Executives will be featured by discussions on questions affecting character building agencies and general trends in American Jewish Life.
Sessions of the National Council for Jewish Education will be featured by the participation of a laymen’s group.
