The Detroit House of Shelter, a home for the wayfarer and transient, now faces its 35th birthday with the suspicion that its future in this city will probably be less glorious than its past.

The House of Shelter, the oldest Jewish philanthropic organization extant in Detroit today, is being disrupted by the recognition that it is now merely a matter of years before the society must relinquish its prestige of former years.

Chief among the factors of disintegration is the lack of community interest. Board members are in complete charge of the Home, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to recruit new board members.
