There has been a noticeable increase in the last year in the number of indemnification and restitution claims filed against West Germany by victims of Nazism here, according to a report by the Jewish Family and Children’s Service. Such claims are handled by the organization’s resettlement service, in cooperation with attorneys of the United Restitution Organization in New York and in Germany.
At the present time, the report showed, the resettlement service here is handling approximately 175 cases of claimants for German restitution or indemnification. Many of the claims involve illness and injuries suffered as a result of concentration camp experiences under the Nazi regime. Increasing requests for claim applications are anticipated as a result of legislation pending now in Germany.
