Five Detroit rabbis today called on their colleagues in this city to take part in current civil rights demonstrations. The plea was contained in a letter to the other Detroit rabbis signed by Rabbis Morris Adler, Irwin Groner, David Jessel, Max Kapustin and Joel Litke.
The letter noted the rabbis’ obligation “as Americans and as Jews and also as religious teachers” to participate wherever possible in the demonstrations. This, it was pointed out, is “to indicate publicly and visibly our repugnance of the repressions and bigotries which they protest.”
