The charge that Dr. Hans Luther, German Ambassador to the United States, is keeping the President of the German Reich in ignorance of the facts concerning the persecution of the Jews in Germany is contained in a letter sent Dr. Luther by Bernard S. Deutsch, President of the American Jewish Congress.

The letter is in reply to a communication from the German Embassy in Washington which refused to transmit to President von Hindenburg a lengthy memorial setting forth the disabilities imposed upon the Jews by the Hitler Government and appealing to him for aid in their behalf. The Embassy refused to transmit the letter, saying “the German Ambassador regrets to have received a letter of such content and does not see his way to transmit it to the addressee.”

In his letter, Mr. Deutsch points out that the action of the Embassy gives credence to the reports current abroad that President von Hindenburg is being held incommunicado in his own land; that he is ignorant of the facts concerning the persecutions going on in his own country by the authority of the government and that it is the desire of the government of which Dr. Luther is a representative to keep him in continued ignorance.
