Hearings on Nazi operations in the United States will be reopened in Washington today by Congressman Samuel Dickstein, chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Immigration.
Executive sessions, held behind closed doors, are scheduled to take place today, Tuesday and Wednesday. Open sessions, to which the press will be admitted, may be held following the first three secret preliminary conferences.
Mr. Dickstein left yesterday for the capital, accompanied by several witnesses who will present testimony before members of the committee during the first half of the week.
It is learned that Joe Smith, head of the American Merchant Marine Association and an unnamed sailor, both of whom are familiar with the activities of Nazi merchant seamen, will report to the committee today. A customs guard will also give testimony.
Representatives of the United States Department of State will appear on Tuesday with records of known Nazi activities in this country. A large quantity of Nazi propaganda now being distributed throughout the United States accompanied the contingent to Washington.
