Dickstein, on Radio, Says Hitler’s Spies Undermining U.S.

Summing up the findings of his investigation of Nazi operations in the United States, and prophesying a world crisis into which the United States would be dragged principally through the efforts of Nazi agitators and spies in this country, Congressman Samuel Dickstein, chairman of the House Immigration Committee, broadcast an appeal Friday night over the NBC network for popular cooperation in his work of exposing subversive Nazi activities.

The congressman described the sweep of Fascism and Communism across Europe and declared that liberal governments of the United States, Great Britain and France were in danger of being destroyed by the power of dictators. He indicated that he had evidence to prove that certain American political organizations were being subsidized by Nazi sources of financial aid, and he stated that the growth of these American Fascist organizations had been rapid, with no organized force prepared to cope with them.

THE THREAT OF NAZI SPIES

“Foremost among those who are at present seeking to influence American opinion are the agents of Adolf Hitler,” Mr. Dickstein asserted. “For the last eight weeks my committee has been investigating the operations of certain German organizations and German individuals in the United States. Although considerably hampered in our investigation by lack of funds necessary to expose the intricate and deftly-covered machinations of the Nazi Government, we have succeeded in unearthing sufficient evidence to define the Nazi government here as the most dangerous threat to our democracy that has ever existed.”

Mr. Dickstein said, “We are at last getting to the bottom of a foreign political machine, whose activities will prove of startling interest when the time comes for exposure.”

HAS EVIDENCE ON FUNDS

Mr. Dickstein said that he had traced the source of funds to the Berlin Government and other Nazi agencies and had evidence as to how much is being spent on propaganda. He said that many liberal Germans in the United States had offered his investigation support.
