complicity in the extortion or kidnaping.
Others questioned yesterday included Mrs. Henkel, Victor Schuessler, Mrs. Schuessler, the last two being tenants of Mrs. Pauline Rauch, also landlord of the Hauptmanns.
MRS. RAUCH HEARD THURSDAY
At an executive session held by Mr. Dickstein last Thursday, it was learned yesterday that Mrs. Rauch had testified that Hauptmann frequently entertained many friends whom she believed to be members of the Friends of New Germany.
Mrs. Rauch based her belief on the fact that whenever these men came to visit Hauptmann, he invariably asked her to remove herself from the premises. She said the men always made insulting remarks about the Jews.
Mrs. Hauptmann, wife of the kidnaping suspect, was originally scheduled to be present at yesterday’s hearing. A subpoena, however, has not yet been served on her, it was disclosed. Mr. Dickstein said that she would probably be subpoenaed for appearance before him on next Monday.
At the close of the hearing, Mr. Dickstein announced that open sessions of the Congressional committee to investigate subversive propaganda in this country will begin on October 15 at the Bar Association Building.
