The Budapest Kehillah has been without a president since the death of its former head, Aladar Kasab, numerous difficulties having been encountered in selecting his successor.
At first the community could not decide whether to elect a banker or a public worker. When they fixed upon Franz Molnar, noted dramatist, he declined the post, as did Joseph Veszi, editor of the “Pester Lloyd.” The Kehillah now wishes to appoint a famous professor of medicine, but has so far been unable to select one who has not left the Jewish faith.
