Ambassador Simcha Dinitz said here that Israel’s security will be assured only when a majority of the Jewish people of the world live in the Jewish State. “When we will have seven million Jews living in Israel our present sense of concern for the future will be substantially reduced.” the Israeli envoy to the United States told more than 1000 delegates attending the 50th Jubilee Convention of the Pioneer Women.
The delegates also heard Sen. Lloyd Bentsen (D.Tex.) call on the Ford Administration to suspend U.S. aid to any United Nations agency that discriminates against any UN member. Bentsen, a declared candidate for the Democratic Presidential nomination in 1976, stressed that “Our close ties with Israel and its survival are in the best interests of the U.S.”
Dinitz hailed the new Israeli-Egyptian accord in Sinai as a break-through. “While it does not bring peace, it is precedent-establishing because it is the first agreement between Israel and an Arab country that is not the direct result of military conflict.” he said.
Dinitz called on the 50,000 members of the Pioneer Women to enlarge their recruitment of younger women into the organization to “give them the same opportunity you have had to share in a noble cause that will help us all–the advancement of Israel and the strengthen of the Jewish community of America.”
