Israeli Ambassador Simcha Dinitz will go to Israel this week for consultations with Premier Golda Meir and her ministers. He will be away from Washington for about a week. This will be his first visit home since taking over the Ambassadorship in March.
The announcement by the Israeli Embassy of Dinitz’s return to Israel soon after President Nixon’s news conference statement last Wednesday that the United States is neither pro-Israel nor pro-Arab but pro-peace raised the presumption that possible changes in U.S. policy toward Israel prompted the journey. An Israeli Embassy spokesman, however, emphasized that it is a routine consultative trip similar to those made by previous envoys.
The executive committee of the Danish Refugee Council in a meeting in Copenhagen recently confirmed a grant of $84,000 for ORT’s continuing work to assist refugees in Israel, it was announced by Mrs. David M. Goldring, national president of Women’s American ORT. Earmarked for language training, primarily for newcomers from the Soviet Union, the grant will be used to equip two modern language training laboratories in Afula Givatayim.
