Making an unscheduled address at the 44th General Assembly of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds here, Israeli Ambassador Simcha Dinitz said that the most important problem facing world Jewry, in view of the recent developments at the United Nations, is to demonstrate the “solidarity” between Jews of America and the Jews of Israel.
Dinitz expressed the hope to the 3000 delegates from more than 200 communities in the United States and Canada that during the coming year at least one million American Jews would visit Israel, “This positive action,” he said, “will carry a message of hope and strength to Israel, as well as being of great significance to the American visitors. Just as we will be fortified by you, you will be fortified by us. We will be a stronger Israel and you will be better Jews.”
Last night in New York, Dinitz received the American Mizrachi Women’s “Rambam Award” at American Mizrachi Women’s annual scholarship fund dinner. The award, presented to the envoy by Mrs. Sarah Shane, national president of the organization, was for his “unique and distinguished service to the preservation and growth of Israel, the building of America-Israel relations, and the strengthening of Jewish values and ideals expressed in the timeless wisdom of Maimonides,”
