More than 650 Jewish leaders will serve on the dinner committee of the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies, it was announced yesterday by Arthur Lehman, Lawrence Marx, Paul M. Rosenthal and Percy S. Straus, chairman of the Federation’s 1934 Emergency Campaign to raise $2,071,000 to complete its budget of $3,655,000.
The campaign will be launched with a dinner at the Hotel Astor on November 11. Henry Ittleson is chairman of the dinner committee and Mrs. Arthur Lehman is associate chairman.
“Although the committee is by no means completed,” Ittleson declared, “it is already certain that we shall have the most distinguished sponsorship for the event. Our greatest fear has been that the Jewish community has come to take Federation and its continuance too much for granted.
“Present indications give us real grounds for hope that the public is being aroused to the emergency. There is a growing awareness of the critical situation in Federation, and it is clear that the threat of its collapse is being deeply felt.”
The dinner on November 11 will usher in six weeks of intensive fund-raising.
