Leaders in American Zionist circles will be the speakers at the dinner arranged for this evening at the Fifth Avenue Hotel to honor Jacob de Haas on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday.
The speakers will include: Morris Rothenberg, President of the Zionist Organization of America; Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, Judge Julian W. Mack, Carl Sherman, Jacob Fishman, Morris Margulies and B. G. Richards.
Of Dutch Jewish ancestry, Mr. de Haas began his Zionist activity in England. He was the editor of the London Jewish World from 1896 to 1900. Subsequently he was connected with the London Daily Chronicle, Daily News and Pall Mall Gazette. At the request of Theodor Herzl, whose honorary secretary he became in 1896, Mr. de Haas came to the United States in 1902. For the three years following he served as secretary of the Federation of American Zionists and has been identified with Zionist activity in this country since then in a number of leading capacities.
Mr. de Haas is the author of a number of works on Jewish and Zionist topics.
Rabbi Issachar Levin, of Trenton, N. J., has been re-elected president of the Achooza Aleph, American Jewish co-operative society for the settlement of American Jews in Palestine.
