Members of the foreign diplomatic corps will probably boycott this year’s Independence Day parade in Jerusalem, Just as they did the same event last year, though for slightly different reasons, political observers indicated today. Last year, diplomats refused to attend on the grounds that their countries did not recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Although invitations have not yet been issued for this year’s parade, it is expected that most diplomats will stay away because their presence might imply recognition of a united Jerusalem under Israel’s rule. The parade route will pass through East Jerusalem.
