The Israeli Foreign Ministry has begun a campaign of explaining its position in relation to the United Nations Conciliation Commission on Palestine to various governments in advance of the scheduled vote in the General Assembly on the U.N. Political Committee’s resolution continuing the conciliation body with emphasis on the internationalization of Jerusalem and the readmission of Arab refugees to Israel.
Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett last night met with American Ambassador Monnett B. Davies on the problem, while Israeli diplomats in foreign capitals have been instructed to approach the governments to which they are accredited to explain the Jewish State’s views. It is understood that the Israeli spokesmen are pointing out that the Political Committee resolution will hamper the progress of conciliation efforts approved by the U.N. and that it will inevitably lead to a deadlock.
