Five direct telephone lines between the King David Hotel and the White House were installed late last week to allow President Carter and his aides direct and immediate contact with their home base. There is no need to dial. Just lifting the receiver makes immediate contact with the White House.
At the same time, the Ministry of Communications began work on establishing telephone lines between Jerusalem and Cairo. The telephone communications between the two capitals first operated during President Anwar Sadat’s visit here in November 1977. Some 200 international phone lines were installed at the international press center in Jerusalem, as well as 20 telex machines.
