Dismantling Israeli settlements in the West Bank and Gaza Strip is “not an issue on the horizon,” Ariel Sharon said. In an interview with the Jerusalem Post, the Israeli prime minister also said comments he made recently suggesting that the settlements of Beit El and Shilo would be dismantled were misinterpreted. Sharon also denied that the United States is pressuring Israel to freeze settlements as part of the “road map” to peace.
