Displaced Jews in the American zone will be able to secure kosher food, if they so desire, it was announced today by Rabbi Alexander Rosenberg, JDC director of religious activities in Germany.
Following a conference with Gen. Walter Beddel Smith, chief of staff to the U.S. commander-in-chief, Rabbi Rosenberg disclosed that the army will provide cattle from local sources, and ritual slaughtering will be supervised by local rabbis under the direction of Rabbi Rosenberg. Supplementary supplies of canned kosher meat will be provided by the JDC.
