Religious items used in synagogues in Austria, which were concealed and thus saved from destruction during the Nazi period, were put today on display in the Vienna Jewish Community building.
Some of the items were returned to the Community after 1945 by the Vienna Museum of Ethnology. The present exhibit is a temporary arrangement until larger rooms are available for a permanent museum in a projected new building. Plans also are being made to organize an exhibit in Vienna of Austrian Jewish historical materials, similar to the “Monumenta Judaica Germanica,” which is attracting substantial audiences in various West German cities currently.
