After consultation with the Jewish Agency for Palestine, the Commissioner of Immigration today made public the distribution of certificates under the April-September immigration schedule announced last week.
In category A-1 (capitalists with $5,000) a total of 1,500 immigrants will be admitted, of whom 950 will be “ordinary” immigrants and 550 classed as refugees. Out of the total, 320 certificates will be set aside for persons now traveling in Palestine, 570 for immigrants coming in under the Haavara transfer arrangement and similar transfer undertakings, and 610 for distribution by British passport officers abroad.
Category A-4 (persons living on pensions) will include 70 immigrates, of which 35 will be earmarked for “ordinary” and 35 for refugee immigrants. Thirty-five refugees will be admitted in category A-5 (agricultural settlers possessing not less than $2,500 each). Another 35 refugees will be admitted in category B-2, or persons of religious occupation.
A total of 2,660 persons will be admitted under category B-3 (students). In this group there will be 1,060 “ordinary” and 1,600 refugee immigrants. The Hebrew University in Jerusalem and other educational institutions will distribute 1,260 certificates in this category, while 900 certificates will go to the Youth Aliyah movement and 500 to the Jewish National Council for distribution among children of 13 to 15 who have close relatives in Palestine.
Category B (dependents) has been allotted a total of 2,950 certificates, of which 2,420 are earmarked for wives and children of Palestine residents and 530 for elderly dependents.
