Division in the Jewish community was averted at the last minute when the Jewish Agency Executive ratified an agreement between the Vaad Leumi (Jewish National Council) executive and the Right bloc allotting the rightists satisfactory representation.

The Hebrew daily Haaretz declared the sole opponent of the agreement was Isaac Gruenbaum, Gen. Zionist leader, who asserted that a convention of the General Zionist “A” Group in Tel Aviv would withdraw its opposition to the Vaad Leumi although it did not believe in the durability of the agreement.

It is understood influential Jewish circles have approached the Government to mediate between the Vaad Leumi executive and the orthodox Agudath Israel in reaching an agreement which would not affect the Agudah’s principles.
