Following Saturday’s riot in Tel Aviv, Mayor M. Dizengoff declared in a statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that the entire incident was the result of the resentment felt by the public at extraordinary and uncivilized measures adopted by the Government in the hunt for tourist illegals.
“I do not justify the illegal public demonstration against the police, for which there is no room in a civilized society,” Mayor Dizengoff declared. “Those guilty must be severely punished, but I hope that the police will understand that detectives and juvenile informers, operating publicly have introduced demoralization into this tranquil city.
“Great patience is required for those undertaking to raise many sons in one house. I hope that when the anger of all elements has subsided, the country will become tranquil and be blessed with a peaceful and happy life.”
