Secretary of Labor William N. Doak denied that he has been brutal and tyrannical in his immigration policy in an address delivered at a lucheon of the Foreign Language Bureau of the National Republican Committee on Wednesday at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
“All my adult life has been spent representing labor—a man who has fought for the underdog, if you please,” he said. “How any one could make a charge of playing politics with human misery against me is beyond my comprehension. On the contrary, I hunted down these racketeers who had been preying on our foreign born people. This policy shall be followed as long as I am Secretary of Labor.”
Most of the deportees, he said, have been either criminals or diseased.
Mr. Doak called upon the foreign born citizen to help him fight immigration racketeers who are being exploited and robbed in the amount of $100,000,000 annually by racketeers and unscrupulous attorneys.
