Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., head of the United States delegation to the United Nations described today the plight of the Jews in Egypt as “one of the shocking results of the whole tragic situation in the Near East.
Replying to the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith, which had asked him to introduce a resolution in the General Assembly for the dispatch of UN observers to Egypt to investigate the treatment of the Jews, Mr. Lodge said:
“I share your concern about the reports of the plight of the Jews in Egypt. The State Department; to clarify the many conflicting assertions on this matter is endeavoring through the United States Embassy in Cairo to ascertain the facts. Our Ambassador in Cairo has already expressed the concern of the United States Government regarding these reports.”
