Visitors from the United States and Europe are expected in Jerusalem June 12-28 for a two-week double dedication conference of the Daniel and Florence Guggenheim Rehabilitation Pavilion at Hadassah Hospital on Mt. Scopus and the Siegfried and Irma Ullman Building for Cancer and Allied Diseases at the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center at Ein Karem, it was announced by Hadassah President Rose E. Matzkin.
Faye L. Schenk, chairman of the Hadassah Medical Organization, said that “Hadassah decided to allocate the entire eastern wing of the revived hospital on Mt. Scopus to the Guggenheim Rehabilitation Pavilion, with 49 beds for inpatients, 12 beds for intensive care, a gymnasium with a glorious view of the Dead Sea, a therapeutic pool, ‘quiet’ workrooms, ‘noisy’ workrooms, treatment rooms with the most sophisticated ultrasonic and short-wave treatment and electrotherapy.”
Mrs. Schenk said the department will be staffed by 10 physicians, 10 physiotherapists, 15 occupational therapists, clinical and vocational psychologists, social workers and a sports trainer. Charlotte Jacobson, Hadassah building and development chairman, described the Guggenheim Center as “the most comprehensive in the entire Middle East.”
The Rehabilitation Center will be dedicated June 15. The Ullman Cancer Center will be dedicated June 27. The latter will be the largest facility of its kind between Paris and Tokyo. Following the dedication, a two-day “International Symposium on Malignant Neoplastic Diseases” will be held under the joint auspices of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the Hadassah Medical Organization and the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School.
