The present DP immigration law automatically excludes about 185,000 of the 200,000 Jews who fled to DP camps from Poland in 1946 and 1947, Ugo Carusi, DP Commissioner, declared here yesterday Just prior to flying to Germany to organize the immigration of DP’s under the new law.
The New York Times today said the law “is still not a good law” because it “deliberately excludes” many Jews and Catholics and discriminates “against those who suffered most under Hitler and have suffered most since Hitler died.” The Times also criticized the State Department for allowing its consuls to snarl up the administration of the law in red tape.
