DR. ABRAHAM CORALNIK, WRITER AND VETERAN MEMBER OF THE STAFF OF THE DAY, NEW YORK YIDDISH NEWSPAPER, DIED EARLY THIS MORNING AT MT. KOSCO (N.Y.), FOLLOWING A HEART ATTACK EARLIER THIS WEEK. HE WAS 54 YEARS OLD.
DR. CORALNIK WAS SPENDING THE SUMMER AT ARMONK, N.Y. HE HAD BEEN SUFFERING FROM A HEART AILMENT FOR MONTHS. AFTER HE WAS STRICKEN HE WAS PLACED UNDER AN OXYGEN TENT, WHERE HE REMAINED FROM MONDAY UNTIL HIS DEATH.
DR. CORALNIK WAS HIGHLY REGARDED IN YIDDISH LITERARY CIRCLES FOR HIS ORIGINAL STYLE, DEEP UNDERSTANDING OF JEWISH PROBLEMS AND MANY-COLORED PERSONALITY.
HE WAS BORN OCTOBER 16, 1883, IN UMAN, PROVINCE OF KIEV, RUSSIA. HIS FATHER, DAVID CORALNIK, IS NOW A MERCHANT IN JERUSALEM. DR. CORALNIK STUDIED IN THE UNIVERSITIES OF KIEV, FLORENCE, BERLIN, BONN AND VIENNA. THE UNIVERSITY OF VIENNA AWARDED HIM A PH.D. DEGREE IN 1908.
IN 1915, DURING THE WORLD WAR, HE CAME TO AMERICA, WHERE HE JOINED THE STAFF OF THE DAY, WRITING FOR IT REGULARLY UNTIL THE LAST. HIS ESSAYS AND ARTICLES APPEARED IN VARIOUS JEWISH PERIODICALS IN AMERICA AND EUROPE. MANY OF HIS WRITINGS WERE PUBLISHED IN BOOK FORM A FEW YEARS AGO IN FIVE VOLUMES.
DR. CORALNIK WAS ACTIVE FOR A TIME IN THE ZIONIST MOVEMENT, SERVED AS PRESIDENT OF THE UNION OF UKRAINIAN JEWS IN AMERICA, AND PRESIDENT OF THE JEWISH WRITERS’ CLUB.
HE IS SURVIVED BY A WIDOW AND TWO CHILDREN. HIS BROTHER, B. CORALNIK, IS EDITOR OF THE JERUSALEM BUREAU OF THE JEWISH TELEGRAPHIC AGENCY.
