That the views of Rev. Alfred Williams Anthony, in controversy with Louis Marshall over the question of proselytizing among Jews, are not those of the Committee on Good-Will Between Jews and Christians of the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America was indicated in a statement made to the Jewish Daily Bulletin yesterday by Everett R. Clinchy, secretary of the Committee.
The publication of the correspondence between Rev. Anthony and Mr. Marshall called forth wide interest in various circles. Mr. Clinchy stated that the correspondence was “purely personal,” adding: “Dr. Anthony was not speaking for the Committee. Our Committee is not interested in converting Jews. I welcomed Mr. Marshall’s reply, for his able letter will be useful to us in Christian circles.”
Mr. Clinchy further stated that so far as he personally was concerned, he is opposed to Christian proselytization of Jews.
