Dr. Michael Astour, a leading Yiddish writer and historian, has been named first incumbent of the newly created Jacob D. Berg Chair in Yiddish Culture at Brandeis University. The distinguished scholar and author of numerous books and articles on social, scientific and literary topics, will join the Brandeis faculty in the fall of 1960. The Berg Chair in Yiddish Culture will be used to enhance the teaching of the Yiddish language and culture. It was established this year by Jacob D. Berg of Elmhurst, Long Island.
