Dr. Bernhard Weiss, ousted vice-president of the Berlin Police Department, was compelled to leave the health resort of Gmunden near here owing to Nazi threats against him and his wife.
Dr. Weiss, who was ousted from office following the declaration of martial law by President Paul von Hindenburg, had been the target of villification by the Nazis in Germany and Nazi organs against whom a number of libel suits are pending, because he is a Jew.
His wife too did not escape the Nazi attacks. Her moral character was assailed from the platform of the Prussian Diet by a Nazi deputy. Later an apology was forthcoming from the leader of the Nazi fraction in the Prussian Diet, who expressed regret that she had been dragged into a political contest.
