Funeral services for Dr. Joseph I. Bluestone, 74, veteran Zionist leader, who died Friday, will be held Monday afternoon from Park West Memorial Chapel, 115 West Seventy-ninth street. Interment will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Maspeth, L. I.
Dr. Bluestone was born in Lithuania in 1860 and came to the United States in 1875. He was graduated from the medical school of New York University, and for forty-four years, until he retired, maintainined an office on the lower East Side, where he was a well-known figure. Up to the time of his retirement Dr. Bluestone was a member of the staff of Beth Israel Hospital.
He was one of the organizers of the Zionist Organization of America, a founder of the Mizrachi, Orthodox Zionist group; organizer of the Order Sons of Zion, whose grand master he was for many years; editor of Shulamith, first Zionist publication in the United States; and founder of the oldest Talmud Torah in the United States.
He represented American Zionism at many World Zionist Congresses and was a friend of Dr. Theodor Herzl. Dr. Bluestone was also very active in Jewish educational work in New York City.
He is survived by four sons, all physicians, and three daughters.
