Dr. Julius Brutzkus, 70-year-old head of the World OSE Union, Jewish health protection society, arrived here today on the Portuguese steamship Nyassa from Lisbon. He had been arrested by French police during a round-up of Jewish social workers last Winter and held in a jail in Nice for 12 weeks. Dr. Brutzkus is a well known historian and former Minister for Jewish Affairs in Lithuania.
Other passengers on the Nyassa were Max Bernstein, father of Arnold Bernstein, the German Jewish ship owner, and Herman Rothschild, art dealer. Passengers, who included many Polish and German Jewish refugees, complained of overcrowding and other conditions on the ship.
