Dr. Cassin Says Jews Should Remember Nazi Terror and Work for Human Rights

The Jewish experience during the Nazi regime makes it imperative for Jews everywhere to work for the extension of human rights, Nobel Laureate Rene Cassin yesterday told a B’nai B’rith luncheon in his honor. The 88 year-old French delegate to the United Nations Human Rights Commission, cited by B’nai B’rith as “a noble champion of human rights,” was presented with a silver menorah by Maurice Weinstein, chairman of the B’nai B’rith International Council. The affair was attended by United Nations diplomats, representatives of the UN’s Non-Governmental Organizations and civic and communal leaders. Prof. Cassin, President of the Alliance Israelite Universelle and a long-time member of B’nai B’rith in France, said there was a “distinct relationship” between his work in Jewish causes and his dedication to human rights. He also emphasized that “all people have a right to have a country.”
